The Humboldt Area Foundation and Wild Rivers Community Foundation (HAF+WRCF) has set aside at least $1.2 million for nonprofit organizations, tribes and government entities helping residents of Rio Dell and surroundings areas displaced by December’s 6.4-magnitude quake.

ERV Community Center Foundation, operator of Fortuna’s Gene Lucas Community Center, plans to continue work of NorCAN, the Northern California Association of Nonprofits, and expand regional access to the network

Students throughout the region are encouraged to apply for more than 170 scholarship funds through Humboldt Area Foundation and Wild Rivers Community Foundation.

We hope you, your family, and your friends are safe in the aftermath of Tuesday morning’s earthquake. We’re especially keeping in mind our neighbors in the Eel River Valley, where the quake was most severely felt. But as we’re learning, the damage is being reported throughout our region. Additionally, a forecast of inclement weather means many of those whose homes were damaged face increased danger as the region recovers.

A historic network of Northern California Tribal Nations, local governments, community leaders and institutions, community-based organizations, environmental groups, and academics have come together to call for 50 percent local investment and protections for Tribes, the environment, and underrepresented communities. The network was convened by the Redwood Region Climate and Community Resilience Hub (CORE Hub), an incubated program of the Humboldt Area Foundation and the Wild Rivers Community Foundation (HAF+WRCF).
