The Foundation is pleased to announce Juan Ruiz as its new Departmental Director of Programs & Community Partnerships.

A portrait of a man.

In this role, Ruiz helps guide how the Foundation mobilizes its resources and shapes its programs. He works closely with staff and partners across the service area to support shared goals and strengthen thriving, just, healthy, and equitable communities.

Ruiz earned a B.A. in Ethnic Studies from Cal Poly Humboldt and an M.S. in Student Affairs and Higher Education Administration from Colorado State University. He brings a deep background in higher education, with experience spanning access and equity initiatives, residence life, campus activities, and financial aid. Prior to joining the Foundation, Ruiz served as a Senior Program Officer at the American Indian College Fund, where he led one of the nation’s largest grant and scholarship programs supporting Tribal Colleges and American Indian and Alaska Native students. As a former Financial Aid Specialist at Cal Poly Humboldt, Ruiz managed a $1.5 million federal COVID-19 grant to provide relief to students facing pandemic-related financial hardships.

Outside of work, Ruiz takes full advantage of the North Coast’s outdoor beauty. He enjoys mountain biking in the Arcata Community Forest, backpacking in the Trinity Alps, and watching sunsets at the beach.
