Juan Ruiz is the Department Director for Programs and Community Partnerships. In this role, he helps guide how the foundation mobilizes its resources and shapes its programs, working closely with staff and partners across the service area to support their goals and strengthen thriving, just, healthy, and equitable communities.

Juan earned a B.A. in Ethnic Studies from Cal Poly Humboldt and a B.S. in Student Affairs and Higher Education Administration from Colorado State University. He brings a deep background in higher education, with experience spanning access and equity initiatives, residence life, campus activities, and financial aid. Before joining the Foundation, Juan served as a Senior Program Officer at American Indian College Fund, where he led one of the nation’s largest grant and scholarship programs supporting Tribal Colleges and American Indian and Alaska Native students.

Outside of work, Juan takes full advantage of the North Coast’s outdoor beauty. He enjoys mountain biking in the Arcata Community Forest, backpacking in the Trinity Alps, and watching sunsets at the beach.
