Assemblywoman Patty Berg & William Patrick Murphy, M.D. Scholarship for Women

Patty Berg was a social worker, community organizer, and a politician devoted to women’s issues throughout her professional career. Throughout her lifetime she served her community in many ways including as an educator, the founding Executive Director of the Area 1 Agency on Aging, the State Assemblywomen for the 1st District, and as a lifelong volunteer. She created this scholarship by bequest to honor her husband Patrick, a local, beloved and well-known physician, and to support women who are determined to complete their education. The intent of the scholarship is to provide the necessary financial support to ensure the recipient can concentrate fully on her studies and become a contributing member to society.
