This year, a total of $40,850 in grants were distributed from the Humboldt Area Foundation and Wild Rivers Community Foundation (HAF+WRCF) Summer Youth Program to 43 charitable organizations and projects. These partners offer youth opportunities for quality artistic and educational activities, outdoor and recreation programs, and scholarships for low-income youth in the region.

Youth-focused programs taking place this summer across Humboldt, Del Norte, Trinity and Curry counties — between June 1 through September 1 — received micro grants ranging from $500 to $2,000 from the generous affiliates, funders and partners of HAF+WRCF. Such partners include the McLean Foundation, The Patricia D. & William B. Smullin Foundation, and the Providence’s Community Health Investment.

“It’s humbling to see how much work these partners are doing behind the scenes to create amazing opportunities and memories for young people this summer, and we’re proud to provide support to help them along the way. Activities for youth are so crucial in showing that through their own unique skills, youth can make positive changes at an individual and community level,” shared Keri Mosey, Senior Program Officer for HAF+WRCF.

Grants in Humboldt County benefitted sports programs through the Mattole Valley Resource Center and art camps through the Redwood Discovery Museum, as well as literacy programs through the Humboldt County Library. In total, the $19,580 dispersed amongst the Humboldt organizations reached far across the county, from the Dream Quest youth wellness programs in eastern Humboldt to the Southern Humbolt Family Resource Center summer camps.

In Curry County, five organizations received grants, with a total of $4,920 awarded. The South Coast Community Aquatics and Rotary Club of Brookings-Harbor are providing water safety technical information, while agencies like the Brookings Harbor Community Helpers focus on addressing food security through the Youth Snack Pack Program.

In Del Norte County, grants were distributed to five organizations for a total of $6,050. Among them were Del Norte and Tribal Lands Community Food Council programs addressing food insecurity; the California Tribal TANF Partnership in Del Norte for the Summer Cultural Camp; and the Del Norte Safe and Sober, a group that provides alternatives to substance use for graduation celebrations.

In Trinity County, $10,300 was granted by the Trinity Trust for Summer Youth 2025 Grants for 18 summer programs—ranging from the arts to wellness and backpacking in the Trinity Alps. These grants were guided by the Trinity Trust Volunteer Advisory Committee comprised of Trinity County residents.
