Thanks to the generous support of our funders, the Pacific Redwoods Missing & Murdered Indigenous People’s Crisis Action Fund awarded five grants last year to hardworking organizations that are addressing opportunities for Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) response and prevention through their dedication, collaboration, and steadfast leadership. Grants prioritized prevention, reflecting a growing understanding of the complex challenges that contribute to MMIP cases.

The Tribally led program adapts its grantmaking strategy to support organizations that make a meaningful difference during moments of greatest adversity. The staff and the advisory committee listen closely to the families of missing Indigenous people, many of whom shared that their loved ones were navigating significant life challenges at the time they disappeared. These might include mental health struggles, domestic violence, substance use, or housing insecurity—factors that increase vulnerability and risk.

One grantee, A Mother’s Village, offers free mental, spiritual, and health support to local mothers. The founders shared the transformative impact of the grant: “Your grant touched us deeply. Since receiving it, we’ve been actively meeting with Native leaders to explore how we can better serve Indigenous women and children who come to our village. This is only the beginning.”

We remain committed to elevating MMIP issues in every space we can, and continue to seek support for this vital work. We are grateful for all the support the fund has received since its inception in 2022 that has allowed us to support these response and resilience efforts.

This year’s grant recipients include:

  • Instinctive Motherhood – A Mother’s Village
  • K’ima:w Medical Center – Medication-Assisted Treatment Program
  • North Coast Rape Crisis Team
  • Redwood Teen Challenge – Women’s Center Staff
  • Yurok Tribe – 2025 MMIP Tribal Policy Summit
